We had a fairly ugly breeze block retaining wall in our garden. We got it rendered with KRend several years ago but it is now discoloured with black streakes. These are caused by rainwater running down the coping stones especially in the cement joints between the copers. We have tried cleaning the render and although partly successful there are still visible stains. We got a company in but they said it would be impossible to clean the render completely and anyway the problem would recur fairly quickly. They also said there was no way to prevent the stains from occuring by repointing the joints between the copers.
So I am looking for ideas to cover the render or obscure the stains in some way. I did think about applying a smooth external masonary paint which I hope we could simply wash in the future or repaint every couple of years. Would that work? Or can someone suggest another remedy?
