Cowboy roof drainage fix.

by Betterdoitmyself » Tue Jan 28, 2025 3:48 pm

Hi you all helpful people. Recently bought a house with cowboy roof drainage on lean to extension. I am turning to you guys for cost effective ways to remove and relocate this eyesore. Long story short original drainage for pitched roof single storey extension was never removed when lean to extension was built. Drainage was left inside the building covered with some mdf sheets. I am open to annly suggestions. See pictures for reference.

Hi betterdoitmyself,
It is difficult to see how you could make a major improvement to the existing installation.
You could form a box gutter using the pitched roof facia as one side this replacing the plastic gutter. You would need to hang a triangular piece of ply from the last rafter of the corrugated roof to form the second side of the box and screw a base piece up into the edge of the facia and the edge of the triangular piece of ply. Then line the box - probably with code 4 lead and a triangular piece of lead up under the corrugated edge and lapping down into the box gutter.
Provided the box lead was fitted under the edge of the roof tiles this would minimise water ingress and give a more practical way of dealing with debris eg leaves.
Regards S
