I see we are now permitted to use plug and pray solar installations, but I can't find out what, if any, British standard they need to comply to? Three electrical questions, one what stops cables being overloads as shown in picture, what happens if 4 solar units are plugged into an extension lead, will they auto disconnect as the extension is unplugged, or will they island? And can you get paid for export, assuming you don't already have a second MPAN number.
The next is physical, will handrails stand the weight and extra wind resistance of the solar panels, and is planning consent of any type required, i.e. can they be used on a listed building.
I would not expect a 750 watt solar panel even with a 2 kWh battery pack to really make much affect to the bills, I found I need the system to deliver around 3.5 kW to be able to supply a kettle etc. And 12p/kWh export to 32p/kWh import, rather than a flat 25p/kWh import, means I need over the 3 kW discharge and 2 kWh charge provided with one 3.2 kWh battery, so I had to double up, so now 5 kW discharge (limited by inverter) and 4 kW charge into a 6.4 kWh battery.
So can't see the plug and pray system really helping very much. What do you think?
