Looking to Build Pull up Bar and Need Advice on Steel Tubing

by FPITAS » Tue Oct 20, 2015 10:15 am

I'm looking to suspend a tube/bar from my upper floor where there are two walls (of the stairs) that are 114cm apart.
I've looked on eBay and a proper solid bar from 304 grade stainless steel of 35mm on 1500mm costs roughly £100. That's a lot of money.
I found a few websites that sell tubes in different thicknesses and I don't know which and what is strong enough.
If the diametre is 35mm and the length is 1500mm, will a 1,5mm thick tube be strong enough or do I need it to be thicker?
There is also the problem that it must be rust resistant and absolutely perfectly smooth which is not easy to find!

This website has many metal options but I don't know which of them will be strong enough and which won't

Will this be strong enough assuming I can ask them to smooth it for me?

This is far more costly but I'm sure it's strong enough

This one has a 38mm diametre and is 1,5mm thick but will it be strong enough?

If this is strong enough it'll be perfect

In general, I want the whole thing to be able to support at least 200kg.
