Conrete Mix Without Sand for Re-Pointing

by lockierp » Mon Sep 21, 2020 2:25 pm

I should have checked the bag on this one, instead of buying the read mix mortar for some basic re-pointing, i picked up cement. Having mixed and applied it without cement, any advice on what might happen? I'm thinking it'll probably just wear away quicker and need re-done sooner? Anything i can do having applied it?

Cheers

Hi lockierp
Pointing with a neat cement mix generally leaves a very messy mortar line. If you are happy with the finish just leave it but the issue will be if you are reprinting an older property where lime mortar has been used.

It was for some 1-2mm cracks in sandstone facing bricks, mainly at knee height where the weather had got at them, and being honest, mine looks tidy compared to the previous owners cement fixes which have fallen out! But thanks! it seemed to be taking ages to dry and was quite dusty, however 3 days in it's largely set
