If it’s the roller handle that’s stuck inside the extension pole, I’d first try twisting it while pulling rather than just pulling straight out. Dried paint can effectively glue the two together, so soaking the joint with warm water (for water-based paint) or using the appropriate solvent for the paint can help loosen it.
If you can get a good grip, try gently twisting back and forth while pulling. You could also tap the end of the pole lightly against a solid surface to help break the paint bond, but I’d avoid going at it with a hammer as you could easily deform the pole. If it has a locking/release mechanism, make sure that is fully disengaged first.
