Old fireplace renovation

Hi All, I have a very old fireplace and would like to renovate. I've made the timber fire surround and want to add a brass fender and some granite and stone. I've got the require pieces, main question is, could I use vermiculite board as the base/plinth to sit the granite and stone on as opposed to ...

Would this lining paper contain asbestos?

Hi All, we love in a house pre 1918 built. My dad was removing lining paper due to damp and black mould areas, would this likely contain asbestos? If so we will get someone in asap. Thanks in advance. Can't put any photos on as this website is useless and doesn't allow large file sizes. Any idea how...

I honestly don't know the true technical name, you seem them on the bases of large timber posts on the angle. Bolts to the ground and bottom of the post. They have a pivot pin and t...

Can you mix Osmo stain 3232 with 3072 amber??

Hi all I know you can mix Osmo tints, done so before any times. However, just done a top coat of 3232 rapid drying and need it darker, so was going to apply amber as the final coat. Is it better to do dark coat first? I can't do that now, so question is can I apply a darker coat as the final? I gues...

Pressure Treated Timber - C24 6" X 2" (BROWN?)

Hi all, Quick question. I am trying to get my hands on pressure treated structural C24, like the green tanalith stuff, 47mm x 150mm (6"x2") but in brown dipped treatment? As a client wants table tops brown and I don't fancy coating over the already treated green pressure treated timber. Fr...

Removing a radiator and replacing for decorating

Hi all, rookie here, not a plumber, I'm a welder. However, I've changed rads on cars before, just want to double check process for bedroom rad. It's a tiny 600mm x400mm radiator, has been in there for donkeys years. I'm replacing with a screwfix 600x600, with new valves. I know how to remove the rad...

Re: Question on Loft/Ceiling Extractor Fan for Damp

Hi there, thanks for the message. As far as I know if blows air from the loft into the house to help circulate. Seems to defeat the purpose of keeping the house warm in my eyes, blowing cold air backing into the house. I have terrible black mould in my bedroom, caused by condensation, so I guess the...

Question on Loft/Ceiling Extractor Fan for Damp

Hi All, New to this forum, just wanted to ask some advice on a ceiling extractor fan into the loft at the top of the stairs. Private rented property. This was installed some time ago, maybe a year, or just over. Long story short, the house is a right hole and the estate are a nightmare to deal with....
