Definitely don't feel competent with electrics. My electrician does not want to do it. Is it really such a big deal? Should I just keep asking different electricians until someone says ok, or rather go for an antique restorer (which will inevitably be pricey).

Thanks, it's what I suspected, unfortunately. The problem is that I can't find a lamp I like aesthetically, while there are a couple I just love back in the US :-(

Does anyone know whether it is possible to rewire, for example, a US wall-mounted down light (110V) to UK standards and how much such an exercise might cost? Thank you.

Hello, Curious what happened to the two inquiries about the double seal covers--did you put them in an how is it working out? I'm in a similar situation, concerned about any possible smell. The contractor says that 'it shouldn't be a problem' but it would be great to hear some additional testimonial...
