Thanks for your quick reply but I've just tried that and unfortunately stilll no joy, think there must be a wire loose somewhere. The wires in the dimmer switch were configured as I said so I reckon it might be time to get a proper qualified sparky in!

Thanks for the reply, I'm not able to check at the moment but if memory serves me correct the wires behind the dimmer switch are as follows: There are 2 blacks and a blue conneted together (not in the dimmer switch, just conneted together behind the switch in the wall). One Ceiling light works, the other isn't wired correctly

I have just attempted to put up 2 new light fittings in my lounge but am confused with the wiring.
