Perfect, I figured it was something like that. I am going to get it converted to a plug I think. I could handle a single to double or maybe adding a new one at a stretch but that I haven't seen so ill get my old man to do that, he's an eletrical engineer.

Thanks both, I think I may wait for my father to come round and demo this... he is an electrical engineer. Guess I should have paid more attention when he was talking.

Ill chuck this one in the bin and get a new one.

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to look. My old dimmer switch finally gave up and I am attempting to fit a replacement. The new one is still plastic but the dimmer switch its self has a metal front (inside not outside the faceplate). Do I need to try and connect back to the earth in the metal bac...
