Bridging the cavity

y builder is currently building the walls to my extension. The wall spec is 100 brick, 10 cavity, 90 insulation, and 100 block. Building control told me to ensure the cavity is clear from mortar and anything else. My builder seems unable to do this, however. Every time I go outside and check on the ...

How is this water getting in?

Any suggestions on how this water is getting in? I previously thought it was my broken external cill however I have had this re-built

There is no visible damp from above, it's like it is coming directly through the wall at that location but there is no obvious damage to the wall outside

Re: Electric underfloor heating buildup

It's two bedrooms that we are installing it in and will be the only active heating source for the rooms. It is, i hope, a well insulated space, and so should remains relatively comfortable throughout the year without much additional heat. However at the same time, I don't want to pay for the cost of...

Electric underfloor heating buildup

I'm about to buy and electric underfloor heating system for my new loft extension. The supplier is trying to sell me insulation boards, two types of underlay etc etc but i'm not sure if these are required. I've just built the new floor, it has acoustic insulation between the joists and then 18mm osb...

New ariel installation

I've got some quotes for a new ariel installation (not very DIY I know). I'm trying to compare them but they are saying different things. The new arial is on the roof and will have the coaxial cable run down and into my loft room. Here I want to have a box that splits the single feed into 5 cables r...

Re: Hot/Cold Switched on Shower Mixer

Possibly - I can try it in a week or so. Would it make a difference though? Currently, the dial has the hot on the left and cold on the right, but turning clockwise gets colder (turning towards the hot mark on the dial). If i flip the dial facing up, so the hot mark is on the right and cold mark on ...

Re: Hot/Cold Switched on Shower Mixer

Yes 100% they are in the correct way, i've gone through all the photos I took. I had wrapped blue electrical tape around the cold feed too. That pipe also feeds the basin which works correctly, and the loo which doesn't have hot water in it! Attached an image of the install, cold vertical pipe is th...

Hot/Cold Switched on Shower Mixer

I've installed my shower mixer and have a problem where the hot/cold come out the incorrect way. I've gone back through my photos and i've definitely put the pipes in the correct way into the mixer so can only imagine it's a fault with the mixer itself. Anyone know of a way to correct this? I only h...

Re: Is this layout suitable when moving pipes, WC and basin?

Thanks for the reply. With it being in the floor structure I'll have installed the underfloor heating, insulation boards, tiles etc before actually connecting the fixtures to the plumbing so I need to get it right the first time. What do you mean use a bend and aav, isn't my original diagram a bend ...

Is this layout suitable when moving pipes, WC and basin?

Hi I'm redoing my bathroom and part of that involves moving the waste pipes into the floor void rather than being visible above the floor. The WC and Basin unit will be next to each other and I want both wastes to drop down into the floor before turning and exiting through the external wall. Here th...

Wall preperation after removing the old tiles in my bathroom

I've been removing the old tiles in my bathroom ready for an upgrade however the plaster on the wall is very powdery. It's basically pinkish dust on the wall. Do I need to do anything to this prior to tiling? I was planning on putting tile backer boards with adhesive and then tiling onto that but wo...
