Re: No Rising Damp but Damp Slab Foundation

Just to add that the living room is predominantly the only room on the ground floor that was part of the original building which was extended substantially in the 70s

No Rising Damp but Damp Slab Foundation

I bought a house with a musty damp smell. 2 damp specialists said my walls were dry and the smell was condensation. I left all the windows and doors open for a few weeks, cleared the house of all flooring etc and put down plastic sheeting everywhere both as a moisture and a dust barrier. Pulling bac...

Flat floor but Wall gets taller. What’s going on?

I have finished taking up the flooring in my flat. When I first saw it the slope on the floor made it look like it had bad settlement when in fact it was just badly laid flooring. What I have noticed is that despite the floor being perfectly level It feels like you are walking downwards but another ...

Re: No room for insulation

I think because of the layout it wouldn’t be practical. The hallway isn’t large enough to not end up with stepping down and then up again when walking between rooms. I would worry about it being a potential trip hazard I was hoping that there was some ultra thin insulation that had the same effect a...

No room for insulation

I have a concrete foundation slab base. Looking at putting down insulation but everywhere it says this should be 70mm thick then on top of to put tongue and groove chipboard. However I don’t have 70mm of height between the door into the flat and the slab base. It is more like 35mm. Is there a thinne...

Re: Concrete base sloping inwards in new property

Anyone know of a good pipe and wire locator Judging by the direction of the bit of pipe that was under the hall way floor I think they have run the pipe work across the middle of the floors as well Fortunately my son trained as a plumber. He said he would help with the plumbing if I made sure there ...

Re: Concrete base sloping inwards in new property

Started to chip away at the gap where I could see floorboards and managed to get a couple up thinking I might find a cellar or joists only to find what I think is the actual concrete base and some wiring that was laid without protection on top of the floorboards and then concrete poured over. I thin...

Re: Concrete base sloping inwards in new property

Interesting about the cellar idea. I thought I had remove every layer in one of the rooms that sloped but found there was one more layer to go. Having removed that layer I have found a bit at the lowest end of the room where there is a definite hole where the concrete slab looks like it finishes and...

Concrete base sloping inwards in new property

Just bought a new place and I knew it had damp issues and 2 sloping and bulging floors which I thought would be levelled by taking up the floor and replacing what I thought would be rotten joists and reinstating the air bricks I ended up taking off 8 different types of flooring that some one has lai...
