Checking the physical length of a circuit?

Does anybody out there know how you can measure the actual length of a domestic light / power circuit without physically looking? Thanks in advance.

Hi EricMark thanks for your posting. The voltage thing (my readings) confused me to be honest! The light itself is wired directly into the mains. Update - have rectified the problem.
