How long for plaster to fully dry before painting

Apologies if posted in the wrong sub forum. I got a boundary wall built a few months ago. I got a plasterer to plaster it. He scratched it a few weeks ago, and put on the final coat yesterday. He used the ready made stuff that you just mix with water. I'm looking to paint it. Wondering how long I ne...

Shed concrete floor getting wet

I got a new steel shed fitted recently with a concrete base, and a new wall across the side (between house and neightbour's boundary wall) of my front garden. From the pics you can see that the shed has a tight enough fit where it's located. There was no plastic dampproof sheet put down under the co...

How much material for capping wall

Hi. I'm looking to lay some coping stones (7 of them) on a new wall that someone built for me. The wall is 6m long and 29cm wide.

Is there a calculator to work out how many 25kg bags of cement and 25kg bags of sand I need?

Re: Looking for advice on concrete for shed base

I think it might be ballast that I bought even thought the guy at the trade counter in the builders supplier didn't mention it. I had told him I already have a ton of sand that I want to use up and that I wanted a ton of gravel. I checked their website just now and it has the following description f...

Re: Looking for advice on concrete for shed base

I bought some gravel today from the builders supplier. They delivered it a while ago. I took a look at it and it's very sandy (see attached pic). Is this normal. I had assumed when I ordered gravel it would have resembled small stones. But this looks like a mix of sand and various sized small stones...

Re: Looking for advice on concrete for shed base

Any thoughts on adding a plastic sheet for damp proofing? The shed fitters had mentioned it. If so where (what layer) would this go? I have the sub-base which has ballast (a bit more sandy but I'll add more gravel to it) and some rubble that I added. Would the plastic sheet go directly on top of thi...

Re: Looking for advice on concrete for shed base

Thanks for the reply. The shed fitters will be looking after bolting the shed into the existing concrete. I'll only be mixing and pouring the concrete (up to the height of the shed base frame (horizontal steel bars). I googled weld mesh and it looks like it comes in a roll. I presume I can specify t...

Looking for advice on concrete for shed base

I got a builder that was supposed to pour concrete for a shed base. The specifications that the shed company specify for the shed base is a double pour. The first pour is the initial base. Then the steel shed is installed, with the horizontal steel bars at the base of the shed bolted into the first ...

Re: Damp circular patches on outer wall in ensuite

If I did see wall ties or screws, is there something that needs to be done? They are there for a reason so I don't I could remove them.

Re: Damp circular patches on outer wall in ensuite

Hi millsy5. Could be the ends of wall ties you are detecting. Dig a hole the the plaster and see what you find. Regards S If there are indeed wall ties, is there anything that can be done to resolve the issue? The wall ties (or screws) are there for a reason so I don't think they should be removed....

Re: Damp circular patches on outer wall in ensuite

I just ran a magnet over the wall. It only stuck on the damp patches indicating that there are screws here.

Damp circular patches on outer wall in ensuite

I'm living in a new build (A rated) for just over 4 years. I've noticed for maybe the last year that damp patches have formed on the outer wall in the ensuite. All other rooms are fine. Ensuite.jpg The first ones to appear were the two directly above the window, on flat horizontal part of the window...
