Adding wood burner to existing system

I want to add a wood burner into an existing central heating system. It seems a waste to have all that heat going up a chimney when it could supplement a wet central heating system. Has anyone done it ? My concern is overheating the water, possible boiling etc. Any views or ideas on how to do it or ...

Does a room need windows ?

I want to split a bedroom into 2 rooms. To do this the created room will have no windows as the original room only has one. I could put a velux in the roof, remove the ceiling and build a plasterboard tunnel to it as this would give light and ventilation. But what about fire safety ? Is it a legal c...

Vinyl self adhesive Planks - suitability

Can anyone advise if the self adhesive vinyl planks that are widely available on ebay and such places, are suitable for a village hall entrance where there will be heavy wear ? The Hall already has a vinyl floor laid that needs replacing, more for its colour and staining but it does have a few place...

Rayburns chuck out a lot of heat and generally there is a radiator on the circuit too to help dissipate the heat. Worth checking that your is turned on. The hot water heating is indirect, so if you are getting sediment coming out of the tap there surely has to be a break in the heating coil in the t...

You're going to have a problem here. A combi boiler generates hot water when you want it, but a back boiler system will only heat water when the fire is lit - and this then needs to be stored. Your combi boiler won't have a hot water cylinder to store the hot water as it doesn't need one. You'll hav...

Thanks Guys, a very comprehensive answer ! Sounds like an easy install of the hardware but I'd probably need an plumber/electrician to commission it. Very helpful, Cheers.

DIY Regs

Can anyone recommend a good manual that helps a competent DIYer to install lights and power to meet current standards ? Whilst I accept the need to have a qualified sparks connect up to a mains unit, I am capable of laying the cables and siting the sockets switches etc. Thanks

Combi Boiler question

I'm looking at putting in a central heating system into a house (2 up and 2 down) with no current heating system. I like the idea of a combi boiler as there is no hot water storage issues. Can anyone tell me if the install is any more difficult ? Does the boiler have a separate set of outlet pipes f...
