Just cleaned the thermocouple - no joy, I will get a replacement tomorrow. It is now stone cold asa not been used for 24 hours, bled both pump and boiler (not that that is relevant if the pilot won't stay alight on its own). Let you know how i get on. Thanks. Why would the overheat stat cut out the pilot if i can not get it to stay alight, not really generating any heat?

what are the 2 spades?

It is a Thorn Apollo. The pilot not staying alight has only happened since I took the pump out and drained the system earlier today. Pilot hasn't gone out once during all my troubles with the boiler cutting out.

I really am grateful for the advice provided, thank you.

I tried to replace the pump but struggles to remove the gate valve from the pump. As this involved draining the system, because I removed the gate valve from the pipe work, the pump appears to sound a bit better.
I now can not get the pilot to stay alight!!!!

Any thoughts?
