Re: Unvented heating system losing pressure

Could be a faulty expansion vessel. Monitor the pressure as the system heats from cold. If the pressure rises by more than a half bar from cold to hot, it is likely the ev.

Re: How to repair leaking waste pipe?

Mmmm. I'm wondering why its leaking. Water doesn't travel uphill without good cause!

to seal the leak, separate the pipe , put the seal back in place and re-fit. Any use of a sealant will at best only be temporary.

Re: Changing Old Jammed Light Switch for New Light Switch

Some switches are marked L1,L2 & L3 others are marked COM, L1 & L2. So transposing, Com = L1 on the other switch, L1 = L2 & L2 = L3.

The wire you don't want to mix up is the one that went to L2 in the old switch. Just assume L1 is common, L2 is L1 and ignore L3 altogether.

Good luck

Re: Replacing Outdoor Socket With no Conduit Help Needed

Your welcome.

That stuff is not going to harm cables. It's recommended for use on plastics anyway.

The idea is not to get the sealant on the cable anyway, but to seal between the box and wall to prevent the slim chance water getting into the socket via the k/o.

Re: Have a Hammer Drill, got a Combi Drill as present.. which to keep

Like most tradesmen, I use battery tools for pretty much everything these days as modern batteries are absolutely awsome. But saying that, I'm with Stoneyboy on this one. The Bosch is entry level anyway, and whilst the small chuck and power might be ok for your purposes, the big no no is the battery...

Re: Replacing Outdoor Socket With no Conduit Help Needed

Seeing as the socket has worked well for over 20 years it would seem that water egress is unlikely to be a problem with the new socket. Using the sealant you've bought, make a horseshoe shape around the cable (opening at bottom) to prevent water getting between the socket and wall, and entering the ...

Re: New lightbulbs not working in lounge?

If the light has ES fitting bulbs, maybe the bulb is fouling the shade and preventing electrical connection?

To be much help, we need the fitment detail of the bulb. G9, GU10, ES, BC for example, oh, and the voltage of the LED bulb.

Re: New Vaillant Combi Boiler losing pressure

........... any leak would be marking the ceiling by now so I am at a loss. Not necessarily actually. This is only a small leak and any damage might only show after quite some time. A lot of the leak could simply be evaporating if the heating is on and the house is warm. Assuming you don't have a h...

Re: New Vaillant Combi Boiler losing pressure

Could it be the expansion vessel leaking? In short, No. Any leak from the pressure vessel would be visible as a puddle under the boiler and anyway vessels rarely leak in this way. Sorry, but given that the boiler is so new, I would say you have a pipework leak somewhere. You just haven't found it y...

Re: Bottlecap down shower waste pipe

Try pouring lots of water down the waste until it's full then suck that out. The water flow might wash the obstruction out.

Re: New lightbulbs not working in lounge?

From your description, I am assuming you are replacing a halogen bulb with a LED bulb and as you don't mention the voltage, so that could be one problem.

Have you checked that the bulb fitting is identical to the original?

Re: SHOWER WATER COMING OUT OF OVERFLOW PIPIE

Is this the part i need to take off and replace? Probably not. The part with "wires" is the low pressure sensor which stops the heating element form working if the input water pressure is too low. The pressure relief valve is the transparent pipe protruding from the bottom of the casing j...

Re: Issues With Flue From Neighbouring Extension

If you know the model of boiler he has installed download the installer manual and it will give precise dimensions of the clearances required to comply with regulation. If you get on with your neighbour, mention it to him. If nothing else, out of politeness, he ought to fit a plume management kit to...

Shaver socket used for toothbrush.

Ok, so here's a question for you, what's the difference between the MK shaver socket and AFAIK, every other dual voltage shaver socket on the market. They all seem to be 20VA rated but only MK produce one which is suitable (and even that's not certain) to be used with an electric toothbrush. Now giv...

Re: Leak in Hot Water System but Only When Cold?

When the system is cold, pressurise it to exactly one bar. Turn the rad temp up high, draw up a chair and fire the heating up. Watch the pressure constantly as the system warms up. It might rise slightly to 1.5 bar possibly, but my guess it will increase to 2,3cor even more. When the system is up to...
