Re: Better Toilet Flusher - Issue With Push Button Flush

Helloee, I did just that, thankyou. I bought a complete kit and started from scratch; it was as anonymous as the previous fittings, had no adjustment instructions but at least I could choose what I needed but the rest was discarded, very wasteful. I know now, following experiments, that the various ...

Better Toilet Flusher - Issue With Push Button Flush

Hello all, I've had a lot of trouble with the three toilet flushers - the modern buttons-in-top type - in this six year old house. Now in trying to sort the latest problem I've found that the doughnut was the wrong size, and not well fitted either; the clips securing the "syphon" (does it ...

Light fitting earth wire?

Hello all, A friend is installing a new light fitting over his grand-daughter's bed; it's fed by a twin and earth flexible cable from a 13A socket which is easier for her to reach. The fitting is all plastic but for the mounting base which is metal. The connection block is in a small plastic sealed ...

British washing machine???

Hello all,

Our old Miele has broken and I'm no longer up to nursing it as I have for the last 30 years! It seems unlikely now but is there a British-made washing machine?

Thankyou James, understood - if I get as far as needing to take the cistern off it'll be to fit a syphon!

Thankyou James, These carry two logos, "NF" and "W" which may mean something to someone. I took the old one apart and figured out how it worked; I think it has two problems, apart from the fact that it barely works! One is that the little lever which engages for part-flush isn't ...

Dual flush adjustment?

Hello all, I have a toilet fitted with dual-flush operated by a large button mounted on the lid, with a smaller button inset. The unit is not cable operated and the only identification is "NF" moulded into the top. Water level is good, no problem there. I can't see anything in the projects...

Hello all, Thankyou for your thoughts; the fridge/freezer is an ordinary Candy-branded built-in domestic thing. I already have a large tractor battery which served me well over Christmas a year or three ago with the computer UPS when I recorded all the Radio Three Bach, despite the power cuts! That ...

Gererator power for fridge/freezer?

Hello all,

Having had power failures of several days in the past, what's the minimum sized genny that would start the fridge/freezer motor? The rest of the household can manage with minimal power requirements but I worry about the cold stuff...

RCDs (sigh...)

Hello Eric, Thankyou very much, I'll have an agitate but as we've now bought the place it may be an uphill struggle; outside extensions though are certainly likely. I expect them to argue mightily especially in the current economic climate... As an aside, the place we've recently bought to live in (...

RCDs (sigh...)

Hello Eric,

Thankyou - I'd thought the 16th also called for an RCD as we could still get a kettle fault by the sink. And as a practical type I could certainly have a mains lead trailing outside as it's ground-floor. But as a practical type I'd still RCD it anyway!

RCDs (sigh...)

Hello all, I've just bought a very small ground-floor flat in a newly-built property. I'm amazed that the paperwork for the electrical wiring states quite unequivocally N/A wherever RCD/RCBO, leakage currents etc are mentioned. I'd thought that _all_ new wiring had to include at least one RCD? I can...

Push-button toilet flush.

Hello all, We have a new house; the three toilets are all fitted with push-button flushes and they all stayed pressed until the selected flush had finished. Unfortunately they all dripped slightly, settling to once every few minutes. Since then the builders have been very patient but we now have thr...
