Re: No Power to Home Alarm Control Panel

One multi meter later (£10 at B&Q) all that was wrong was that the 12V Aux fuse had blown. £2.20 for 10 at Maplins. Job done for £12.20 vs. £50 call out charge plus whatever other spurious charges might be added.

Re: No Power to Home Alarm Control Panel

Thanks for your comprehensive response. I had thought of the main power fuse which is on a spur just below the alarm but I can actually hear an electrical buzz from the system when the front cover is removed, so power is present. Weirdly, I can also hear the internal sounder trying to emit its alarm...

Re: No Power to Home Alarm Control Panel

So I see specific wiring advice defeats the purpose of having an alarm in the first place. My problem is that I've come after 2 days away to find no power in the control pad. Checked consumer unit but nothing tripped. No power to PIRs in the living areas. No power to front door viper or conservatory...

Replacing a VIPER in an alarm system

Hi there, Can anyone help me on this one? I've had a new front door fitted (white) and wanted to change the original shock sensor & magnetic contacts (brown) to white. I have 8 core wire, 2 of which (orange and brown) are feeding a panic alarm adjacent to the door. That leaves me 6 wires. Origin...

Without going into detail then, for anyone else who comes across this problem the answer is that there are various conversion charts on the web for mapping existing connections to new connections. You just need to know the make of your existing handset and cross reference those connections with thos...

Sara H, Yes it's a plasterboard ceiling with loft insulation above it and I'd be walking the rafters. The 'light sealing the hole' thing comes from a box of fire rated downlighters in B&Q - maybe I've misinterpreted but that seemed to be what is was doing...sealing the hole (or maybe just keepin...

Do new downlights need to be fire rated?

Hi all, I'll be installing new downlights into a lounge ceiling. I'm on the top floor so access is easy via the attic. I had heard that I need to ensure the new lights are fire rated so that in the event of a fire the light would seal the hole, stopping the fire from going into the attic void. Is th...

Door Entry System Wiring - Replacing a handset

Hi there, I've just bought a replacement handset (Bell 801) for my door entry system. The existing phone that I'm replacing has 5 wires going to different parts of the handset but their destinations are marked A B C etc. The new handset has connections marked Z T 0 R 1. The incoming wiring has very ...
