Sharing MCBs

Given the limited number of MCBs available on a two RCCB consumer unit, is it acceptable to connect more than one similar circuit to the same MCB. Say two minor lighting circuits, obviously not the main upstairs and downstairs lights. I am interested in evenly distributing such circuits but ensuring...

Thanks Eric. I described that the live came from the downstairs cct, via switches and strappers etc, the fact that they had used a neutral from the upstairs cct, I thought that this was termed a "borrowed" neutral. Do you agree? The electricians never included a neutral from the downstairs...

Neutral feed.

Eric, As I said the neutral is to complete the Double switched stairs(landing) light circuit. This was necessary after the installation of a new split load consumer unit. For safety reasons I wanted the d/stairs lights with langing light to be from one RCCB/MCB supply and the u/stairs lights to be f...

Neutral feed.

Recently, to correct a borrowed neutral problem, I've had to run a twin and earth from the new consumer unit to the loft to supply a neutral from one of the RCCB and MCBs to the ceiling rose of the stairs light. Now the downstairs lights and stairs lights work from one RCCB and the upstairs lights w...

Thanks Chris and Eric for the replies. The pipes are correctly insulated. I have bridged them at the front.

Cable run across heating pipes.

Thanks to Topspark and Ericmark for your advice. I think I will likely use trunking in front of pipes to bridge them. I'm interested in both of your comments and their different engineering solutions. I have to admit, I've seen the work of "electricians" in a number of house, they have cli...

PVC cable near central heating pipes.

Where central heating pipes are running vertically on the brick wall of the garage, I need to run a PVC 1.0mm T&E to the consumer unit, horizontally high on the wall, crossing the pipe run. Is it satisfactory to run the cable along the mortar line behind the pipes?

Neutrals joined in lightswitch boxes.

Our house was built in the early 1970s wired with PVC cable in good condition, obviously red/black wires. However the electrical contractors at the time joined neutral wires in lightswitch boxes. This has not been done or modified by amateur or home owner. This is not the normal or present way of wi...
