If yours is an indirectly heated system, it means that the heat to warm the water in the cylinder comes from an 'external source' ie the boiler pumps hot water through the pipe coil inside the hot water cylinder and this in turn warms the water which you draw off to use domestically. Try renewing the rubber washer in the make-up ball valve. If the problem still persists, you could try throttling the make up water rate slightly because the noise you describe is sometimes caused by the ball float 'bobbing about' on the water surface.

Installing a new indirect hot water cylinder

Dear Lads (and Lasses), Is it best to sit the new cylinder straight on the wooden floorboards in the airing cupboard or should it be stood on two pieces of timber each about 4 inches wide and positioned 3" apart centrally beneath the cyl? Also, how can I best connect a length of new 28mm copper...
