what fills this gap?

What do i put in the gap where our wooden framed windows meet the brickwork?
IS it cement or putty?
One gap in particular (front door) has around 15mm gap around where existing stuff has fallen out, i want to get these gaps filled asap.

queastion about stair way papering

I am about to decorate the downstirs hallway, the stair's and the landing. The paper will be the same, from floor to ceiling. there will be one run that will go from the top of upstairs ceiling to around 0.5 meters off the ground floor (stairs). Where do you recommend (or where would you) i hang you...
