Re: Removing Tar and Sealant From Brickwork After New Conservatory

Thanks Welsh Brickie.
That's helped a lot with the tar, and am now going to try to get last of it off with white spirit. Didn't do much for the silicone though - just smelt awful!

Removing Tar and Sealant From Brickwork After New Conservatory

Advice please! Have just had conservatory replaced, and the new one has a steeper roof pitch, which has resulted in a tar-like line where the old flashing was, and a line of yellowed old sealant below it. I've scraped off as much of both as I can, then used a wire brush, but both lines are still ver...

eggshell problem

Hi, I want to paint a small area of wall with an eggshell finish paint (it's eggsactly (sorry!) the colour I want). It's going on over a silk finish emulsion. I sanded & washed the wall, but the paint didn't seem to want to 'Stick@ to the wall, so I applied a coat of matt white emulsion, thinkin...

Hi, Neat bleach will do the trick, but only temporarily - the mould is a fungal growth and will come back. You need a fungicidal treatment to get rid of it for good. Mangers make a spray (about £4), but it's REALLY bad to breathe in, so I wore a mask and painted it on rather than spraying, and would...

Gravel round wooden fence posts?

I have just put up an all -wood fence (posts, gravelboards & panels), using postmix. I followed the instructions exactly, digging holes the right size and depth, but the mix did not fill the post holes right up to ground level. A neighbour suggested cutting the bottom out of a big plant pot, dro...

Sealing between bath & tiles

Can anybody help please? I stood on the sides of my bath to move down the shower head my 6' 5" son left at the top of the rail, and the plastic sealing strip came away from the edge of the bath. I've cleaned it up and removed all the old silicone, but whoever tiled the wall left some fairly lar...

Bathroom extractor fans

Can anybody help please? I need to get a fan fitted in the bathroom, but am confused about which might be the best for my needs. I have an 8.5Kw electric shower fitted over the bath in a 2.1 x 2.3m (approx. 9cu. m) bathroom. With teenagers who do a lot of sport, it's used at least 4/5 times a day, o...

? Thermostat kaput

Thanx for that Steve, but is the thermostat the same thing as theheating element? It might be a daft ? but the key to main parts in the manual doesn't mention a thermostat at all. I understood the element works at a constant temperature, and it's the rate of flow that determines water temperature

shower too hot HELP!!

Didn't quite know if this was the right place to post this, but here goes: I have a 3 year old Triton Jade 8.5kW shower which has suddenly started to spray only very hot water. Shower head is descaled, hose is fine, and flow is normal, as is water pressure. We tried: turning the controls to cool, th...

horrible 70's ceiling

Can anybody advise on how best to deal with an awful fan -shaped pattern on my ceiling (not sure if it's Artex or plaster, have tried to scrape at it, but it's really hard stuff)? I thought it would be possible to skim it with fresh plaster to make it smooth, but two local plasterers have looked at ...
