Noisy call water cistern ball valve

I replaced my cold cistern ball valve a few months ago. It has recently started to resonate for about 10-15 minutes just before it finally shuts off completely. The noise echoes round the rising main and is sufficiently loud to be heard throughout the house. Any suggestions as to a cure?

Thanks for that. However it leaves me with a bit of problem. I can remove about 25-40 mm of plaster around about 70% of the join. For the remainder, the edge of the old plasterboard is only about 5mm from the existing tiles. I am reluctant to attempt removing further tiles because of: 1) risk of bre...

Finishing off and skimming a plasterboard repair

I have repaired a hole in plasterboard with new board. the size of the repair is about 40 cm each way but not a regular square. I plan to skim over the repair to level it off and then replace the tiles. The result must be watertight for since it is in a shower area. Does the skim plaster go straight...

Did you cap the chimney with a ventilated cap the keep the rain out when you sealed the chimney? Chimneys need airflow through them to prevent damp buildup so you also need a ventilator grill in the fireplace as well. At least this is what I understand to be the case. Even with a cap moisture can ge...

Black mould inside a stud partion due to leaky pluming

I have found small area of black powdery mould on the inner paper surface of the plasterboard on a stud partition caused by a leaky recessed shower mixer. The worst extent of the mould is along the contact between the pasterboard and the vertical wooden battens of the stud, persumably because this i...

REPAIRING HOLES IN PLASTERBOARD AND HOLLOW DOORS Project

The second method in this project suggests screwing wood battens behind the existing board. Would it be feasible to glue the battens with a suitable building adhesive instead? I don't want to use screws as this would involve removing more tiles to expose the bare plasterboard. Can I glue the new pie...

Repairs to bathroom wall after leaky shower valve

I am in the process of replacing an old leaking recessed shower mixer valve mounted in a stud partition. I have removed the old valve and small area of tiles cut away water damaged and mouldy plaster board around the existing opening as far back as the remaining tiles. I now plan to install a surfac...
