Thanks Screech, the boiler is an Alpha CB24X, not sure of age as it was in the house when we moved in. If this is the problem is it something I could replace myself or an engineer job?
Our Combi boiler will only 'fire up' when the hot water taps are turned up to virtually full. It's almost that the boiler doesn't detect that it it needs to heat the water unless its a strong flow.
