Bolt size conversion

Something I bought came with standard hex head bolts. I want to replace these with countersunk head ones. I can't figure out what M3, M4 etc stand for on the ones I am looking to purchase. The provided bolts have YZ 4.8 written on them. Any clue what this refers to or how to convert?

silver ducting hose as a pipe cover

could anyone tell me whether it is possible to cut silver ducting hose along its length in order to place it around an existing pipe. my downstairs loo is having a spaceship makeover (don't ask) so it would only be for cosmetic purposes and really i just need to know whether or not it would hold it'...

How to put a plug on a light fitting

I wanted a wall mounted light for my bedroom that would plug with a normal 3 pin plug into a socket I have spare. I didn't want anything fancy, I'm not bothered about digging the wires into the wall (as it happens the wires will pass behind a mirror and chest of drawers to the socket). I couldn't fi...

Insulate my flat roof or convert to pitched

my ground floor single story extension which has a flat roof is freezing cold. it's totally unheatable in the winter. we've tried turning up the heating, adding an extra radiator (portable oil filled one) to no avail. the rest of the house is ok, it's a 30s semi so gets chilly in places but nothing ...

Can I glue my bathroom sink back together?

a mirror tile fell off my bathroom wall today and landed corner down on the very edge of my bathroom sink. it managed to shear off a huge piece from the outside of the sink - it's about as big as my palm and i can see right inside the hollow of the sink. it's a fairly clean break though so i've tape...

Fixing skirting to walls with rubbish bottoms

I need to fit skirting board in one of my room. My problem is that the bottom 5 to 10cm of the wall is inconsistent; it's fine in places, then missing and back to bare brick in others, and remnants of some kind of hard foam elsewhere. No More Nails has been recommended but I'd need to get the walls ...
