Blockwork removal

I am just about to embark on the removal of a section (floor to ceiling) of a blockwork wall in order to install a recessed shower cubicle. The job has been assessed by a competant professional, who concluded that there are no issues with the planned work and that I can do it myself. The only questi...

Dormer

I'm considering increasing the size of my 1st floor bathoom with a 5' x 6' dormer out over my attached garage (obviously below the bathroom), has anyone any experience of a project of this nature, if what sort of cost would be reasonable?

Electricity Meter

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of the logistics and cost of moving an electricty meter and consumer unit. I'm planning to demolish the internal wall which currents sites both meter and unit, and want to move them to an adjacent external wall.

Thanks for everyones advise.

The leak finally surfaced at the weekend - a fault on part of the new installation and nothing to do with the existing pipework.

Pipework replace and system holding pressure.

Additional

A friend suspects that as we can see no evidence of a leak (yet!), the system may be losing water through a number of tiny leaks rather than one large one. And he suggests the use of an internal leak sealant (e.g fernox F4) which is compatible with a pressurised system and can be dosed via the radia...

Low system boiler pressure

We have recently (September) had or whole central heating and hot water system replaced from an open vented system to an unvented system with condensing boiler (pressurised to 1.4 bar). All worked satisfactorily until 2 weeks ago, the boiler went into fault due to low system pressure (0.4 bar). The ...

Burying C/H pipes

I'm currently running some new radiators into a concrete floor, I have chopped out for the new pipework and plan to wrap the pipes with barrier tape before re-instating the floor. What is the most appropriate material to use to back-fill the trenches?

I am planning to build a studwork partition wall between my kitchen-diner and living room; would this need to be constructed using fire retardant plasterboard sheets or will 12.5 mm surfice?

Chimney cooker hood

I have recently installed a stainless stell cooker hood in my kitchen, unfortunately the outer section of the chimney was too long to fit between the top of the hood and the ceiling. Therefore I removed approx. 8 inches with an angle grinder. Unfortunatley this has tarnished to brushed stailess stee...
