40a breaker is for things like showers, cookers & hobs only. Quite often using 6mm & larger cable.
32a is for ring mains only, using 2.5 & 4mm cable.
16-20a are for radial circuits & will depend on the load to which one is used. This would be on 2.5 cables only.

Heavy curtains will help if you have large windows. But it sounds like you best alternative is cladding the outside of the house with a good insulation. They have done this with a lot of council houses.

Not to worry. I thought as we have a 10% leeway on voltages supplied in the UK i wasn't sure if instruments may have the same inbuilt tolerances for safety.

Hi, i assumed there might be some other electricians on the forum. But i got in touch with two of the manufacturers that make these testers & both had a similar reply. "If its rated to 400v we don’t recommend they use it with a 415v system" Which makes you wonder why they produce a 400...

We used to get the same & was only solve with taking the door off "after marking the rubbing points" & planning it down. We had to fit some draft excluder as well. Been fine ever since. Take a touch more than you think off.

Look at a connection box where the motorised valve cable will all reach without having to extend them as this would be a pain extending them, all the rest should be done in a good quality heat proof cable or butal. Cable tray is a good idea or 2x2 or 3x3 trunking & tank cut some holes for glands...

Voltage testers 12/400v

Was looking at a voltage tester that was 12/400v. Now they used to be 12/415v. Is this meant to be the new voltage we was going to get about 10 years ago + & never arrived. My place is at 244v at the moment.
What the question is? Are these 400v testers ok on 415v test. Thanks

Not sure what they are like, but there are many on ebay "tower" that look the same as the honeywell @ around £35.00

Presumably you have a remote stat? Press to buttons to turn the temperature up. Boiler should fire up.

Use glued pipe & get about a 1-1/2" to 2" fall on the pipe over 6'. But no problem otherwise.
