Thanks Stoneyboy, I'm glad you mentioned vent valves at high points.

I really don't like the idea of pushing hot water down and cold water up, but I have no other option. I suppose if the system's sealed, it's all down to the circulation pump.

Are there specific problems associated with a drop system?

Hello, this is my first post. If anyone can help with my question, I shall be most grateful. I'm planning to install oil-fired central heating. The house has a tiled ground floor throughout, so most of the flow/return pipes will have to drop down to each downstairs rad from the first floor - about 2...
