Re: Chipboard repair?

Hi bxcfilm, Buy some 2-part wood filler, this will fill all the holes and form a sound base. Keep the rear fixing in place so you can pivot the rail back into the correct position, mark the top of the rail before you start. Drill a pilot hole in the seat filler so you don’t break it up fitting the s...

Re: Small concrete pour for tidying up, and possibly a plant pot. Nothing to heavy.

Hi diwh, Dig out the weedy bit on the outer edge to a firm base, form shuttering, mix and pour concrete mix into the deeper bit, if you can find some mesh (cooker grille, mesh fencing, birdcage side) lay this in the hole on top of the old and new concrete, then fill to the required level. You can do...

Re: Building works - Regularisation or not?

Hi user101,
If you do not have the necessary approvals in place you may find your buyer(s) pull out when a search is carried out or you may have to accept a lower price. Potential buyers may not be able to get a mortgage.
Probably best to get approval.

Re: Central Heating only works with hot water ON

Hi allendee, Assuming that your system used to work correctly try turning the heating on as described in your last paragraph. When the pump and boiler turn off try actuating the motorised valve manually - you may have to give the lever a good shove. If the system fires up then it may be that the syn...

Re: Freezer component corroding?

Hi kathyfaull,
The working side of any fridge/freezer is always a mess and the white could be where water has condensed and left a residue. Unless the freezer stops working correctly I suggest you ignore the deposits. Buy a freezer thermometer to check its temperature.

Re: Help needed sliding patio door

Hi kellymary76,
You would need to find something like a side trim/finisher for a fixed panel.
Unless you can establish the manufacturer of the doors you will find it very difficult to match the existing one.
Why do you need to replace it? It should push back into place.

Re: Cowboy roof drainage fix.

Hi betterdoitmyself, It is difficult to see how you could make a major improvement to the existing installation. You could form a box gutter using the pitched roof facia as one side this replacing the plastic gutter. You would need to hang a triangular piece of ply from the last rafter of the corrug...

Re: Rain Water Downpipe and Floplast Bottle Gully Connect

Hi kingshaves, I think the floplast bottle gulley comes in two parts - the bottle trap itself and a push in grid funnel. If this is correct you could remove the grid funnel fit a 110mm to 68mm adaptor and extend you downpipe to suit. This would allow you to fill around the downpipe with pebbles/ston...

Re: Advice on how to remove tap head

Hi jupiterid, The hand wheels are held on by a grub screw, you should be able to see whether this is has a hexagonal or slotted end by looking in the loose one. Once you have slackened the grub screw you may need to do some wiggling and levering to get the hand wheel free of the splines - spraying r...

Re: Condensation behind insulation in bungalow roof?

Hi jamgars,
Lack of ventilation may well be the source of the problem. Perhaps refit the panel where the drips were forming and wait for the next cold spell and see if the problem still exists.
As a matter of interest you appear to have 225 deep rafters - is this correct?

Re: Help calculating acute architrave

Hi chin061210,
Assuming it’s an external corner place a straight edge on one face and use a protractor to measure the angle.
Divide this by two add 90 degrees and this will be the angle to cut.

Re: Condensation behind insulation in bungalow roof?

Hi jamgars, From your description it sounds like you have fully filled the space between the rafters with insulation so there is no gap between the top of the insulation and the underslaters felt. I suspect you will find condensation to varying degrees above all the insulation. If breathable undersl...

Re: Condensation & Mould Around Bifold Doors - How to Replace Rubber Sealing Strip

Hi inexorabilis,
The new gaskets should be a tight fit in the gap, if you have found synthetic ones warm them in hot water before fitting.
A dehumidifier will help with condensation but it may take weeks of running it continuously before you see any reduction in mould growth.

Re: Condensation & Mould Around Bifold Doors - How to Replace Rubber Sealing Strinear the corners

Hi inexorabilis, Yes replacing these seals is an easy DIY task. It won’t cure your mould problem but should stops drafts. It’s less easy to get the right size wedge gasket, they generally come in 3, 4, 5, 6mm section. Pull out a section of the existing gasket and order a metre of a similar size and ...

Re: Damp issues inside wall between kitchen and toilet

Hi jennylaslo, Suggest you approach this issue one step at a time. Sort out the leak on the toilet side and see if this cures the problem-yes it will take a long time. It may be that damp from the toilet side has got under the stud wall and into the carpet under the kitchen floor, this will be worse...
