Re: Grout immediately darkened after regrout

Hi scg1889, It certainly looks like there is water rising up into the grout lines. This could be that it is residual water under the tiles from previous usage. Suggest you mark the extent of the darker areas on strips of masking tape adjacent to the grout lines and see what happens over the course o...

Re: Repurposing shed doors into garden gate

Hi rosiekay,
You will need structural support for the frame sides - either a wall or fence posts, so best to cut off the sill.

Re: Repairing/Replacing my Pitched Ceiling

Hi diy_luke,
The kingspan should have an integral vapour barrier so seal the joins so this becomes a continuous barrier.

Re: Help with plastering and internal wall insulation

Hi girlie26, Party wall - very unlikely to be down to bad plastering or application, you have eliminated the shower room theory, it’s most likely to be the higher floor levels and no vertical DPM on your neighbours side. Get the wall below your neighbours floor level injected with silicone fluid the...

Re: Parent's chalet bungalow - insulation plan.

Hi theteaboy,
Assuming you will be fitting RWA46 this should be stiff enough to push in place but the slabs vary in stiffness so it may be a trial and error process.
Assuming the pipes are laid above the joists, take your loft insulation strips over the pipes - do not insulate under them.

Re: Help with plastering and internal wall insulation

Hi girlie26, You have my sympathy trying to sort out this problem of condensation. Unfortunately, if you have tenants who have a lifestyle like your previous tenant, you will always have condensation problems. Ventilation is one solution but generally tenants don't like it and will make moves to sea...

Re: Repairing/Replacing my Pitched Ceiling

Hi diy_luke, Thanks for the reply and further information. If you have continuous soffit vents then the easiest way to provide high level vents is by fitting vent tiles into the loft area. The gap you have between the under-slaters felt and the insulation should be OK. I doubt it's worth swapping Ki...

Re: water trapped in double glazing glass panel

Hi ljpc,
It looks like you have timber windows so open the window and carefully drill upwards and through the glazing gasket. Be very careful not to hit either of the glass panes.

Re: Repairing/Replacing my Pitched Ceiling

Hi diy_luke, Because of the location of the damp area it is more likely to be condensation, especially if it’s a north facing roof. If you are going to replace the ceiling check that the roof is ventilated - if not install some. Fit PIR insulation between the rafters leaving a ventilation gap above ...

Hi tonyb13,
Suggest you use expanding foam, once it’s set trim it back and plaster over it.

Re: Can you concrete over a hardcore and screed base?

Hi lgc369,
You’ll be fine provided the thickness is 75mm or more. 50mm is too thin for “poured” concrete.

Re: Using a long SDS Plus chisel

Hi letzdiy,
You should be fine with the long chisel but depending on the thickness of the concrete breaking it up may be painfully slow. You may do better with a sledge hammer.

Re: Parent's chalet bungalow - insulation plan.

Hi theteaboy, To increase the depth of the existing joists you could fit bits of 125x50 on top of them or you could use a number of short pieces (packers), the advantage of the short pieces is that you can work round existing services on top of the joists. Even if you could remove the glass fibre in...

Re: Parent's chalet bungalow - insulation plan.

Hi theteaboy, As you are finding it is difficult to upgrade the insulation in a chalet bungalow without a complete roof strip and upgrade. Point 1 It looks like you have 150/175 deep joists in the purple crawl areas, lift the boarding you already have in place, add 100/125 packers, fill the gaps bet...
