I've noticed when I switch on 9 downlighters in the kitchen the power consumption drops by about 120w and jumps back up when they go off! I've checked this lots of tim...

Do I then have to put a sealant/filler down the outside to ensure weatherproof? Any advice + recommendations re brands would be muc...

Good paint for external window?

Whats the best external paint (ie hardest/longest wearing) to use on a jeld-wen softwood casement window in an exposed windy position? I don't want to have to redo it too often!

uPVC to wooden windows?

I live in an old cottage which had uPVC double glazing done 20-odd years back. The windows need replacing and I'd like to go for wood. Since the plastic ones are standard sizes, is there somewhere I can get "off the peg" wooden replacements. Everywhere I've looked seems to want to make the...

ouch

Oh Dear. Are we talking 1000's or tens of 1000's? Should I just go for any roofing repair company or one who specialises in elderly building? Presumably they'd know about the building control requirements etc.

old pan tile roof with wormy trusses

I've got a 150y old cottage + the roof's leaking. I think some of the old (pan) tiles look awry. It's in quite a windy exposed site + rain may blow up under. The felt looks as if it needs replacing, When I looked in the loft several of the original oak roof trusses have woodworm holes in some places...
