thanks for the advice, boiler stat clicks on/off ok and shuts off boiler! the noise travels along the pipes under the floor upstairs and can be traced up through the pump and into loft tank, it usually happens just after the boiler cuts out but sometimes it will still happen if the boiler continues ...
