You will need to compact the tarmac, but first break it up as small as possible which makes it good for compaction, my past experience in using chippings is to have no less than 75mm else you be ever covering up the tarmac subbase all of the time.

How much fall?

Just wondered how much fall would you allow for say 12m long driveway? so much per meter? Is there a difference in fall between tarmac and block paving? I've seen some company's put them in level cause they belive the water would soak through the brick pavers.

Gravel is cheap and cheerful but can be messy and look messy from wheel ruts, especially if gravel is less than 50mm in places.

Laying brick pavers on tarmac or concrete?

Just wondered what people's thoughts are on this subject, if the tarmac or concrete doesn't have any cracks or holes in and is virtually water tight after many years of being used would you recommend lay brick pavers on it? In my past experience I have experienced that even after the pavers dry out ...
