fitting a newel post at the top of the stairs.

i need to fit a newel post at the top of the stairs. the stairs are fittedto a joist ,do i cut away some of the stride and riser of the top stair ,drop my newel post INFRONT of the joist ,level with the second stair, then fixit to the joist, then fix stair to the newel . OR do i do similar cut away ...

control on the flow pipe (heats up first), lockshield on the return ,by which rad is balanced, thanks very much for the info ,much appreciated....Geoff

which is the lockshield valve ?

just bought a property with ok central heating ,but some of the radiators have no valve caps, and are fully open. how do i tell which is the lockshield valve on the radiators, and with valves being fully open should i adjust , and balance the system again...... thanks geoff

radiator info. help needed

hi ,i need to replace two rads, in the lounge and the hall,(1800, and 1300x 500) which are over 25 years old. i am looking at quinn compact ,which are quite expensive . i have seen cheaper ,but i am not sure what the difference is between them, any info and recommendations would be greatly appreciat...

central heating pipework

am i right in saying, on a double pipe heating system, the main feed and return pipes are 22mm, and teeing off to radiators, feed and return pipes are 15mm. ..........and if i added another rad i tee into the 22mm feed and 22mm return.....with 15mm speedfit , would that be ok ??? Thanks

adding new radiator

hi ,i want to put a radiator in the conservatory, we have a bedroom radiator right above, can i break into the pipework and using speedfit , [i]run the pipes down the cavity[/i], only a matter of about 8ft.
