Useful

HTGE - useful, thank you.

Still mulling on a Baxi. I reckon on a solid day's work and £400 max labour and removal.

Cheers

Certain it's 22mm pipework. Currenty Potty (Puma 80) is 12 years old.

TRV on all rads already. Thermo in the hallway (I don't think I'll get the best HIPs rating).

It's just the boiler. Looking at Alpha 34Kw. I can pick that up for £908 inc vat.

So cost is a removal and installation labour.

I live in Kent, near Tonbridge. I am looking to replace an old Potterton Puma with something very reliable at a flow rate of over 12litres/pm and 30Kw. So it's a removal and installation job. The boiler is openly accessible in a kitchen and pipework all surface running. What is a typical day rate fo...

Baxi v Alpha

I'm looking for something over 30Kw and flow rate of 12l/m.

HTG Engineer (the poster) cast doubt on Alpha and now I am thinking again. For me it is reliability above all.

What is the opinion out there: Baxi v Alpha?

Thanks

Combi installation costs

I am looking at an Alpha 35Kw which has been quoted at £1550 (incl 15% VAT) to buy and fit. A Potterton heatmax 24 has also been quoted at £1300 (incl installation). The Alpha is around £1,000 inc VAT and the rest (£550) is labour. I just need to know if this is a reasonable price or not before I go...

Hello Rosebery, Actually, everything working nicely now. The seals were almost exactly the same as compression fit poly. Seems to be holding OK. I am certain theirs were a fraction too thin. Now the next problem headed 'blowing hot or cold' has occurred whereby the hot flow fluctuates. We think it i...

I might try a new shower head that has a greater flow rate. Is that daft?

There could be a sensor problem because even the normal taps do fluctuate, but over longer periods of time.

Potterton Puma 80 (not 80e)

I gave it a try: turning down the boiler water heat control (not the central heating one). But it still flames up for 3 minutes and then goes back to pilot for 5 mins – and so on. From the basin hot tap in the same bathroom I get a consistent supply of hot, although occasionally it does go cold temp...

Blowing hot and cold

My Potterton Puma 80e is over 10 yrs old and a solid (and big) old boiler that has served my house well. It provides hot water pretty well throughout the house, although I would say that there have been hot ans scalding issues in the downstairs (Aqualisa - Aquarian mixer). I have a PRV set at 3bar f...

Triton 3/4" Push Fit Bar Mixer bracket

Thought this was the end of all my troubles. No offset attachments from pipe to lug - nice'n'esay quick fit. Fitted pipes to instruction etc. After 2 days of turning mains n and off, leak after leak I began to despair. Bracket screws onto wall, pushfit screws into bracket and pipe is sealed. Brother...

80 watts

Very low power – only 80 watts. To be left on all winter to take chill off, warm towels etc.

Load wire protruding from solid wall by wall mounted cabinet. Probably was shaving point or vanity light. God knows where it is coming from.

I'll do the right thing and call a comp person.

This site is the dogs.

Cheers

80W towel rad in WC

Have bath-shower area separated by stud wall and folding door to toilet and corner basin. Want to put IPX1 34 elec rad in by basin. Supply through switched fuse, load – short wire from rad will need extending in sealed terminal connector. Supply and load go via pull cord ceiling switch. Then realise...
