Many thanks for your reply, KB. You've described how to connect from the previous light, and I think I follow that (except there don't seem to be any earth terminals in the spotlight fittings). How would I continue the circuit to the next light on the lighting circuit after the spots (e.g. the next ...

Update: the magiplug didn't work for me as water seemed to trickle out from under it as soon as water went in the bath, so I got a refund.

The overflow alarm works as long as I have doors open and no background noise.

In the living room. We're actually putting in a new lighting circuit - part of long-term plan to re-wire the whole house. Building Control have been notified and done a prelim inspection to check the correct-sized cables used for lighting and sockets. No transformer is needed for the spotlights.

Thanks for your reply, htg. "The problem will probably be the number of holes in the overflow cover (chrome/gold decorative part) or the pipe diameter, you could try changing the overflow assembly Google "cgi.ebay.co.uk/BATH-WASTE-CHROME-PLUG-CHAIN-OVERFLOW-KIT-FREE-P+P_W0QQitemZ3702119748...

Bath overflow not working

Our bath overflow only lets water out very slowly - nowhere near quickly enough to cope if the taps are left running. We've had the waste pipe and overflow pipe out and there is no blockage at all. Water flows out of the plughole fine. The plumber has been round and done the same thing (checked ther...

stoneyboy, You're absolutely right about it being important to consider long-term consequences, and that's why I've written to the bodies concerned, because I think it's important that they are aware of the isssues you have mentioned before they make recommendations. In my case I live in a terraced ...

"Yes, probably not what you wanted to hear. "
Right! :(

Thanks for that, though. I've written to the energy saving trust and National Insulation Association (with a link to this thread) to let them know, as they recommend insulating solid brick walls.

“To get to U value from thermal conductivity you need to divide by the thickness of the material. “ Thanks, Stoneyboy, I'm very grateful for your explanation because now it's all fallen into place and makes perfect sense! It also explains why thermal conductivity is in W/mK and U value is in W/m²K. ...

How to choose between different insulating materials?

We're renovating our living-room and have stripped the walls down to the brick. Before re-plastering I'd like to insulate the external walls (solid brick walls). I have spent the day trying to determine what is the best material to use and am none the wiser! Ideally I'd like to know which material g...
