Cutting through arris rail

Hi all, I need to take out a section of fence, built with feather edge boards nailed to an arris rail. Any ideas on how to do this? There doesn't look to be enough slack on the rails to work them out, so I am guessing I need to cut them and then join them afterwards. Does anyone have any other ideas...

Hi Stoneyboy, Thanks for the tips. Yes - I will check the joists when I rip out the old cylinder. Found a few nasties on the ground floor so far, but nothing upstairs to worry about (YET!). The current location should be fine though - right above the boiler, it will be above the kitchen when it gets...

New Hot Water Cylinder

Hi all, I need to fit a new hot water cylinder - the existing one seems too small for the property anyway, and we are going to extend in the future. FWIW - all the plumbers that quoted for a new boiler also said the cylinder was too small - but we weren't sure where it was going to be moved to at th...

If you want to use one of those electric only water conditioners, I've also got some elephant powder you can have. It will keep all elephants at bay. I've been using it for 15 years now and never seen a single elephant in my garden...

Rear mounted cooker 'hood'?

Hi all, My wife suggested that instead of mounting a cooker hood OVER the cooker, we mount it behind. The logic being - we are putting a range cooker in front of an existing chimney breast which already has a large opening that used to house the floor standing boiler. So we would like to plumb an ex...

Loft insulation - eaves gap?

Hi all, Looking to fit loft insulation - its an old place we've just moved to and there is NO insulation - it's been a cold an expensive winter! Anyway - had a thought - to maintain the gap around the eaves and to give some 'protection' to the insulation, any thoughts on nailing some wood to the roo...

Hi Mark, Interesting what you say. I am in a similar situation to the OP (though without the training) but I feel I would be sufficiently competent to re-wire a house with just a few queries at present (I would have been looking to get this knowledge before starting the job, and / or getting someone...

How long for wall to dry?

Hi, Had a damp problem caused by leaking downpipe. Problem only came to light after I put up new shelves and effectively blocked in the corner. I have fixed the downpipe, cleaned the mould, and I want to put the shelves back but the very corner is still damp. So - how long do I need to wait for this...
