Hi, I think you have worked out the reason for the peeling. It definately sounds as if the walls were not sealed properly. It may be that just a bit of it needs to be scraped off but if most of it comes off easily then it may be better to try and get it all off and start again. If this is the case a...

Hi, hardwood and gloss paint don't really go together. You say it comes primed which is strange for a hardwood door, but if the door has been primed then it will need at least 2 undercoats before giving it a topcoat, with a light rub down between coats. The best thing to stop it sticking would be to...

Hi stuann, you need the undercoat otherwise within a week or two the colour that was on the door before you painted will bleed through as you have found. A coat or two of undercoat will put a stop to that. If you tend to get paint on the carpet why not put a newspaper under the door and spread it ou...

Hi stuann, there can be a number of reasons for this the first being preperation and the colour that you have covered up. Next could be the paint you have used. Did you use the 2 in 1 stuff or just the non drip gloss. If it was the latter did you give the door an undercoat first. I would use the Dul...

Hi Jackie, have to agree with JRS on this one. Unless you have put on lining paper then it will always be best to strip the walls completely. If you have bits of glue etc on the walls then you didn't prepare them properly the last time they were done. If you want a good job that you are really happy...

Hi QC64, I have good idea on putting stuff on PC but it's nice to have a bit extra input just to make sure on some things. Ms don't do updates for the earlier versions of XP Service packs any longer so I did in the end get sp1a and sp2 onto a memory stick. I have put in new HDD and service packs loa...

Hi, how are you putting on the emulsion as this can make a difference to the finish. It sounds to me like you could be putting it on all in the same direction instead of putting one coat on starting from say the window to the back wall then the next from one side to the other. The other reason may b...

Hi stubbalot, try putting cheap masking tape around the edge of the carpet. Get it so that it is tight to the skirting board then use your fingers to push it down so that none of the carpet can be seen between the tape and the skirting boards. That way you will not get any of the paint on the carpet...

Hi, thanks for the replies. I was told that to be able to put the later service packs on I needed SP1A and my pc came with service pack 1. I have now got sp1a on HDD but for some reason won't go onto a Cd. I will now keep hold of the site I got it from and go to it when I put the new HDD in. The onl...

Hi, I agree with Dan on this you really need to get it sorted or the problem will probably only get worse. If you want to hide it then I would do a similar thing to what Dan has said but mix some gloss and undercoat together about half and half and paint this on. By putting the undercoat in it will ...

Installing XP on new HDD it came with service pack 1

Hi all, I have to put in new HDD in my old PC. I have XP disc with it that came with service pack 1. I have seen that updates can now only be had for later versions of XP. My question is can I copy service packs from my PC onto a cd so that when I put new HDD in with XP service pack 1 on I can then ...

Hi, yes you will probably need 2 coats of undercoat to make sure of covering the red. If you leave any of the red it is possble that it will show through the finish colour. The undercoat needed will be the one that the finish colour says to use, it should be on the can. You have to use the right one...

Hi, if you are going to patch the holes then the best and probably the easiest way to finish the job would be to artex it, just the patches that is. It would still stand out from the rest but not as much as putting something on the ceiling to cover the holes.

Hi, as you say your house is only 3 years old wouldn't it be covered by the NHBC warranty. If it does you could get them to look at it first before you do anything. If not have the internal walls been skimmed or are they just plain plasterboard. As Dan says you should be able to see some type of scr...
