Hi stacefan, it comes down to your taste in the end. Without a bit more info you are not giving much away here. There can be practical elements but need to know a bit more first.

Hi arianna, if it's a damp smell then first I would suggest you have that checked out. The problems people have had with Crown have mostly been a Sulphur type of smell, like gas not damp. Crown do make a sealer for this type of problem. If you are sure it's just the walls then have a look at the lin...

Never heard of that one before, handyman. I am a believer of if it's loose and coming off then it's best to get it off to start with as sooner or later it will peel again. I am old school when it comes to decorating and it takes a lot to convince me to change to new ideas.

Hi Jenn, your best bet would be to prepare it well to get rid of the marks that are already there, then undercoat and gloss. You could also put on a coat of clear varnish to help protect it after the paint has dried thoroughly. It sounds like there are drinks being put on which are causing the rings...

Hi Richard, you are going to need to rough up the surface a bit for the emulsion to adhere properly. You could try using Liquid Sandpaper which can be bought at most DIY stores instead of normal sandpaper if you are worried that there may be lead in the paint that's already on the walls. Haven't use...

Hi Richard, just clean the walls with some Sugar Soap that should get it off. No need to get it all off if you are going to paper it again though. If you are painting it, make sure it is all off or the paint may start peeling as it dries like a wrinkled effect. After washing with Sugar Soap wash it ...

Hi all, looks like I may have got it wrong with my reply JRS. Thought that you may have been talking about my talking about ceiling white or distemper and not the bit about PVA so sorry about that. Lets hope they get back to us with bit of feedback so we know if it was that or something else. Sorry ...

Hi JRS, I don't know what you were saying about my reply. I thought that it answered the question or was I missing something. Ceiling white is what a lot of decorators used to call the old Distemper. I have often come across this even in 2 houses I have lived in and have found that the best way to d...

Hi John, there are plenty of mouldings that would do what you are after, just go into your local DIY store. The chances are though that you would still need to use some type of mastic as well, as there is a good chance that the surrounds will not be true and so will leave gaps. Are you using a silic...

Hi tigermoo, it wouldn't hurt to sand down any bad bits just to get the walls smooth again. If you repaint over any rough bits the chances are that they will show through again especially if it's a silk type finish. If you don't prepare the walls properly there is no way you can get a good finish, s...

Hi koopah, where the paint is flaking is there a white or greyish looking paint under it and if so can you wash it off. If so it could be the old ceiling white which was used before emulsion and this often causes what you are describing. If it is this you will need to remove it all or this will keep...

Hi tigermoo, Whichever method you end up using, ie brush or roller just remember to keep the wet edge as this is important as JRS has said and also be consistant with the amount of paint you put on as chris said. Another thing you could try is to put the paint on from the lightest part of the room a...

Hi denboy, if you are going to paint on it with a waterbased undercoat, why not just try the emulsion first. They are both waterbased so the outcome should be the same. If for some reason it doesn't dry properly remove what will come off then use a oilbased undercoat to seal it first or get some acr...
