Advice on Prepping Concrete Sub Floor for Laminate

Hi, I have a concrete subfloor which is mostly tiled with old linoleum and so is fairly flat, with the exception of an eight foot by three foot section where the tiles are missing (there used to be a faux chimney and fireplace here). The old tiles are quite thin, about 3mm. Am I safe to just lay the...

Re: Chaging Mixer Shower for new Bristan Frenzy and Advice on Removing old Nuts

Well this 'simple' jobs turning into a bit of a nightmare. Having had the plumber out it turns out the existing shower isn't a straight swap after all. Got the old unit off but couldn't cut the olives off the pipe as the nuts were covering them. The pipe protruding from the wall is also too short so...

Chaging Mixer Shower for new Bristan Frenzy and Advice on Removing old Nuts

Hi, I'm attempting swap out my old mixer shower for a new Bristan Frenzy. Upon trying to remove the old bar, i note the nuts slacken by turning clockwise, however the nuts on the new mixer bar will need to tighten by turning clockwise. I can only assume that the existing nuts are part of the wall br...

Re: Tips on removing cement from interior wall after removing fireplace

Thanks for the tip. Having looked around a bit I can see that 10% hydrochloric acid is a typical concentration for brick acid, but proper muriatic acid is much stronger at 38.5% (but much harder to find). Would the 10% strength solution be sufficient do you think? Also I note one site that warns aga...

Tips on removing cement from interior wall after removing fireplace

Hi, I've recently removed an old brick false fireplace and have been left with patches of cement stuck to the wall. Can anyone offer some advice on the best way to remove the cement. A photo is here for reference Thanks.

Re: Bathroom extractor fan doesn't turn off - any ideas?

Ok so... Turned off the upstairs light circuit from the fusebox. Found the fan! Tested with a multimeter to ensure no power was on. It has two red and two black wires only, although there were two other 'internal' black wires leading from the live terminal to somewhere inside the fan. Not sure wheth...

Re: Bathroom extractor fan doesn't turn off - any ideas?

On closer inspection (and looking at other units available online) the fan is separate to the light and must be situated at some point further along the duct and wired separately. I'll have to get back up in the loft and try and isolate it for a closer look.

Bathroom extractor fan doesn't turn off - any ideas?

In the ceiling is a small extractor fan with a halogen light in the centre. In the loft space two white wires come off of the unit and enter a small white box. Two wires (red and brown I think) exit the box unit. At the switch side, the light and fan have separate switches on the wall. The light tur...

Beko FGA943

Hi, I have a Beko fridge freezer FGA943. The fridge section gets too cold and starts icing up, even with the thermostat on the lowest setting. The thermostat does come on and off, just at too low a temp. A thermometer measures about -2celcius in the fridge. Have tested (not sure whether correctly th...

Thanks for the reply, that's good to know. The diameter of the existing collar is such that I thought it would probably prevent a close coupled wc getting far enough back to the wall so its good to know it can be removed and replaced with a pan connector with side out if that becomes necessary. Now ...
