Lighting circuits are on a 6 amp breaker. You proberly isolated the wrong circuit,RING means RING MAIN FOR SOCKETS. The bare copper cable is the earth, and must be covered with green/yellow sleeve.

The other end of the cable has proberly been spured from a light fitting or switch in the bathroom & has been disconected, remove fittings & check, make sure connect the same i.e. live to red or brown, neutral to black or blue.

Have you got a split load cu, if so is the cooker on the rcd side, if so disconect it & try it again, some times an element starts to brake down & causes a problem if the cooker is on the rcd

The plastic doesnt need earthing, only if the box is metal it needs a earth. Just connect your t&e from your socket to your spur, make sure you connect the earth in the socket connections.

hot switches

The switches should be a 20 amp double pole switch [switches live & neutral] The red light is just a neon light, if you have a 10 amp single pole light switch there, it will get hot, get it checked by a electrician.

rcd

RCD 'S are there to protect you from any earth fault, the regs state that one must be fitted. MCB'S protect the circuit i.e the cable, to stop it overloading. So you should upgrade to fuse board with a rcd fitted.

Central heating not working

I've just installed a new towel rail in my bathroom, I drained the system, fitted the rad, then re-filled the system & bled the rads, but when I put heating on it does not heat up, well a little bit. The room stat red light is flashing, showing that there is a problem.
Can any one help me out.
