Failed Immersion and Fitting Willis Jacket External Heater

My immersion heater has failed in my indirect copper hot water cylinder, and it is proving impossible to remove the failed immersion. On searching for an answer to my problem, I found that a small copper tank called a Willis Jacket External Immersion heater could be fitted externally to the hot wate...

Velux Roof Widows - Problem Re-fitting the Movable Window Section

I recently had a Velux roof window fitted (a good job done by my builder). I used to gain access to work on my old slate roof by opening the old skylight, and climbing out (with a safety harness attached) onto the roof, and using roof ladders etc. After reading/looking at the Velux instructions, I d...

Re: Render over wood beam set in the brickwork.
use expanding mesh and nail it on with galvanized nails, then paint the area with pva and render it with
a mix of 4/1/1, sand, cement, lime.
Will it be ok to put some waterproof in the with the mix ?It is an external wall exposed to severe weather.

Render over wood beam set in the brickwork.

I need to render an outside brick wall which has a wood beam set into the brickwork. It is not practical to remove the wood beam. Will it be ok to cover the beam, and surrounding bricks with expanded mesh,(or PVC expanded mesh) and then render. I am worried that the wood will 'move' with different te...
The RCBO will detect exactly the same as an RCD. However some RCBO's are only single pole switching although they still detect both poles. The single pole switching devices can only be used with a TN system. With a TT system it needs a twin pole device. Or it needs a RCD ...

RCBO

I am thinking of installing a new Cons Unit, and fitting it with RCBO's,but I am worried that they will not 'see' Neutral Earth Faults. Can anyone advise me on will they detect Neutral Earth Faults, or just Phase to Earth faults, and Overcurrent?-thanks.

Concrete flat roof

I am thinking of building a porch (approx 18ft x 7ft), I would like to put a flat concrete roof on it, with a view to also use it for a balcony. How do you manage to get a waterproof seal where the roof joins the house, and is it advisable to have a very slight 'fall' on the roof so the water runs o...
