Hi,

You have a TT system. Your whole consumer unit must be protected by an RCD. 16mm to the earth rod 10mm to the gas and water also sound right. Remember limitations under part P.

Need a light in my loft !

Hi, I intend to put a new light in my loft. This is how I plan to do it. From an existing spotlight from my en-suite shower ( easily accesiable from loft) I will run some 1.5mm twin and earth to my new light fitting ( probably just a 6 inch pendent for now). At light fitting will connect up : cpc (f...

:D :D Just a quick update : Have recently passed the part P Domestic Installers course at the local college ( took 9 months, not one of the 5 day courses you sometimes see). Have learnt hell of a lot on the course, previously could only wire a plug and I came unstuck changing a light fitting. During...

Hi,

The regs state that water dripping from washing machine taps etc should not affect socket outlets ie not below them. May want to consider moving them and remember they should be attached to the building fabric and not on the kitchen furniture.

Hi,

As Sparx pointed out for older dwellings the height of sockets etc does not comply as long as they are no worse in terms of compliance with the regs.

Hi,

no sockets above the hob, minimum 300mm from the edge of the hob (and draining board/sink) and 150mm above the work surface plus to comply with regs the socket should be between 450mm and 1200mm from the finished floor level. Hope this helps.

Hi, Have not come across any specifically regarding proximity to doors however approved document M does state "reasonable provision must be made for disabled people to gain access to and use a building". To me that suggests using some common sense when the regs does not cover the situation...

Hi,

Have recently done a Building Regs exam as part of my Part P course and can tell you the height of switches, sockets etc must be between 450mm and 1200mm from the finished level floor level (Approved document M - Access and Facilities for the disabled).

Regards
