Hi, I tried what you advised, Neil54, and it saved the day. Not only did I get a ring tone when I disconnected, when I reconnected everything was absolutely fine. Must have been loose connection in the master.

Thanks ericmark and Neil54 for your replies and your advice. I'm going to get one of those tools in the next day or two and will investigate. And if it comes to it, I'll get some very nice biscuits to go with the tea/coffee for the engineer :D

Checking phone line

Hello, I have just joined the forum and am looking for advice. I have signed up to Virgin Media's national (non-cable) phone service. They contacted me to say the line was activated and gave me a phone number... but when I plug in a working telephone, the line is dead and when I call my number it is...
