Damp 1940s Semi

Thanks - there is no sign on crystals and the skim is definitely damp - the underlying render and brickwork is no however.

Damp in 1940s semi

Can anyone help? My semi has an effective damp proof course in the walls but not on the floor. I have fitted a platen isolation membrane on the floor which is designed to channel any damp to the edge of the room where it dissipates. This seems to work as the laminate on top of it is fine. Floating Shelves - max span

I want to fit floating bookshelves in an alcove 1.9m wide (as shown in the DIY Doctor project - batons screwed to the wall on three sides and not centre bracket). What thickness of pine board would I need for the top of the shelf if the shelves are not to bow at the front edge?
