Hot Water Tank Vent Pipe is Discharging in to Expansion Tank?

Why is the hot water tank vent pipe discharging hot water into the expansion tank?
It seems to have a steady flow more than a trickle but less than a gush - I think its when the hot water is being heated or has been heated.
The thermostat is set at 60 degrees and the boiler is set on eco.

Thanks

Re: Leaking Cylinder joint (fibre washer) at pipe outflow

Thanks for your help - I have completed the job and it is not leaking - so success! It saved quite a significant amount of work and costs as the cylinder is built into a cupboard which on one side is also a fitted wardrobe. While I needed to remove some internal shelving to access the cylinder bleed...

Re: Leaking Cylinder joint (fibre washer) at pipe outflow

Thanks for your help with this!

Re: Leaking Cylinder joint (fibre washer) at pipe outflow

Thanks - I do have the tools and some plumbing experience.

Are you saying that because the seal is inside the cylinder then replacing only the fibre washer is not enough? You suggest hemp and "plumbers mate" made into a washer to make a seal on the outside??
Where do I get hemp?

Leaking Cylinder joint (fibre washer) at pipe outflow

I have a leak at the central heating outflow pipe where it is coupled to the hot water cylinder. The fibre washer appears to have disintegrated. See attached images What steps need to be taken to replace the washer - and will this alone solve the problem? [attachment=0]P160114_16.180001.JPG[/attachm...

Damp spot behind radiator

I have a damp problem behind a living room radiator (see images). The plaster has become soft in patches. On the other side of the wall is the kitchen and in particular immediately behind the patches is a dishwasher. As it is in a fitted kitchen I'm reluctant to take out the dishwasher to see whethe...

Re: New flat appears to have a damp problem?

Clearly a condensation problem: You need first to de-humidify and then to make sure there is adequate ventilation and air circulation - air bricks and window vents might be the answer if you do not want security issues with open windows and doors.
