Do I need thicker flex if making it longer?

I'm sitting up a load of LED lighting bars (2 different sizes) & they all come with the figure of 8 style flexes with moulded plugs that 1 metre long & are 0.5mm. I was just about to swap these out 3 metre ones (0.5mm which I already have) then I thought I should check if I can stick to 0.5m...
