Your local DIY store should stock masking tape specifically for that. It is masking tape with about a six inches (or more) polythene "skirt" attached.

Worked like a charm for us, and is far cheaper in the long run. Gloss paint is the very devil to get off carpet.

Sorry, I should have thought of that.

The boiler is a Ravenheat, between 6 and 8 years old. I don't know the model I'm afraid and it's in the loft, so very difficultfor me to get to.

Gas boiler heats rads, but not water - why?

I've had this problem for a few months now. The rads work OK, but the hot water starts to come through the taps only for a minute or so, then goes cold again. I haven't managed to run a bath for months and If it weren't for my electric shower I'd not be pleasant to be around! Engineers don't seem to...
