Customer pays the Apprentice?

Our plumber did a small job for us recently. He charged us 30% mark up on the materials - fair enough I guess, half a day's rate (£125) for 2.5 hours work - on the basis he had to travel 12 miles each way and then on top of that £50 for his apprentice. All plus VAT of course. Now this apprentice is ...

Cripes £80 a quarter! Sounds like we definitely need to get this changed then. No point burning wood pellets in an attempt to be green and then sucking thousands of kilowatts off the national grid! Thanks so much for this info. No-one else has been able to even give us an approximation of how much e...

Hi Stoneyboy Thanks so much for that info. That's pretty much in line with what we thought. It's a bit difficult to know where to go from here as the plumbers seem reluctant to do any more work until we've settled the account for these 3 extra pumps. The invoice is a bit steep too. £460 for the pump...

Seven Pumps. Can that be right??

Hello We're in the middle of a major (and sadly very expensive) renovation. It's a big old place with 16 rooms over 3 floors which we hope to run as a B&B. We've had a new heating system installed so that means a new boiler, 350L tank and approx 27 radiators. 3 of the ground floor rooms have und...

Thanks stoneyboy. As it turned out the mottling was just an internal feature of the stone. I needn't have panicked, there was no residue left on the surface and a second coating of protector has brought them up lovely. Thanks for your advice.

Internal Render - Cement, plaster or lime?

Hi there, We're renovating an old Cotswold stone house and whilst we've exposed stone in various rooms to great effect but the thought of another round of sand-blasting and re-pointing fills us with dread. So we thought we might try a light render over stone in some of the rooms. You the know the ki...

Has Floor Sealer been applied correctly?

Hi We've just had a limestone floor laid. It's got an unpolished tumbled finish. Our tiler came yesterday to seal it but 24 hours later I'm concerned that the sealant looks very mottled, as though it has soaked in in some places and not in others. He started by cleaning the floor with water and then...
